Example of: Commissioning via an umbrella organisation
Live Well Kent
Kent and Medway
A significant focus of Kent’s Cultural Commissioning Programme was to upscale a wide range of arts organisations to be ‘commissioning ready’ to take advantage of public sector wellbeing delivery contracts. A successful and current example of this is Live Well Kent, a community mental health and wellbeing social prescribing contract.
The contract is delivered by two providers who act as an umbrella covering a network of delivery providers. When the contract was initially developed, it drew responses from traditional providers delivering day-centre type models, however Kent County Council’s annual innovation grants have continued to skill up local arts and cultural organisations to deliver some of these services instead.
Organisations who currently deliver within the existing contracts have built up a track record of success and credibility, as well as contacts within the County Council which, in turn, leads to them being encouraged to bid into opportunities they might not have otherwise thought of.
