Example of: Developing the local landscape

Children and Young People’s Social Prescribing Pilot
Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin

Through initial grant funding to support the development of a children and young people’s social prescribing pilot in South West Shropshire, SPARc Theatre collaborated with local young people to ensure their offer met their interests and needs.

SPARc supported young people to come together to play music, facilitating collaboration and providing practice space and support for bands that were emerging from the groups.  Open Mic sessions were made possible by the Town Council giving over space for performances recognising the emerging music scene with their younger population and the positive impact it was having.

The impact of the programme on children and young people and the links to other local projects including Party in the Park, Skate Jams & the Ludlow Carnival encouraged local community & town council support through community leaders, schools, and parents.  Opportunities to sustain the programme and develop new creative opportunities have emerged through this community ownership and involvement by other organisations.
