Local Authority grants funding
National (varying approaches by regional local authorities)
Many local authorities across the UK provide a mechanism to support local VCSE projects. Amounts available vary from council to council. In Ipswich and East Suffolk Community Chest Funding has been used to support grass roots health care and wellbeing needs, including creative arts.
Local Councillors will also usually have an annual fund that can be distributed within their ward to directly benefit residents. The amount a councillor has to spend varies from council to council, but is likely to be approximately £2000 - 3000 in total.
In Torbay, the Council’s department of Adult Social Care made a ground breaking decision to use part of the Adult Social Care Council Tax precept increase to establish a Community Investment Fund for one-off funding grants to community groups, voluntary groups and social enterprises across Torbay who wanted to work in partnership with Torbay Council to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents. In the 2021/22 round eight grants of between £5,000 - £15,000 were awarded.
