Example of: Wider workforce development
South Peninsular Medical School, University of Plymouth
Devon
Creative practitioners became ‘Education Facilitators’ and delivered a Health Promotion module to 3rd Year medical students as part of their Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) qualification at Peninsular Medical School.
The aim of the module was to provide students with practical experience of health promotion and advocacy, enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health, through engagement in arts and humanities initiatives. Students were required to design a health promotion tool, giving a presentation to explain for whom it was designed, why it was appropriate and how the tool could be rolled out.
The Health Promotion module was delivered to three groups of approximately 12 students, with a cultural sector organisation and ‘host’ organisation to give students context of working with particular participant groups, to answer questions about work in practice and give feedback to students as they developed their projects.
