In 2022 Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust appointed an artist in residence, Helen Snell, with a remit to work with NHS staff to explore issues of wellbeing and burn out. A series of co-produced drawings were developed through continuing discussions and shadowing of staff at Torbay hospital to explore their experiences of burn out and responses to the word ‘wellbeing’. Staff were encouraged to talk about and visualise meaning and metaphor in their work and environment. Find out more in this Channel 4 news feature.

As healthcare staff, we don’t often have time to reflect on our roles and how they impact us or shape our persona.....I believe that Helen and her work is an invaluable resource for the hospital in assisting staff to create narrative, visualise and contextualise what it is they do for patients and their families under (often) difficult circumstances. I really recommend it for all staff.
